I have sad news for all you Dirty Scrappers,

after much consideration and some serious health issues

I have decided that as of 1-1-11 Dirty Scraps will be closing.

This has been the heart of my scrapbooking for so long and a dream

come true on so many levels.

However health and family have always come first for me.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us including amazing sponsors,

scrappers, design team! It was a non-paying gig and you all stepped it up.

Journaling reads: As a little girl, I watched my parents take in stray cats. Their idea of respecting an animal was especially confusing to me when I learned that my own kitten had gotten hit by a car and eventually died. I knew then that they were being too liberal with the animals they claim to have cared for. They felt that cats should have the freedom to be outside as they wish. I wish I could say that they learned their lesson and kept their cats inside the house. But as I grew up, I witnessed more and more deaths - mostly from hit and run. My parents blame the drivers - those who hit them and never bothered to stop. Of course I can blame them too, because I think that's such a cold thing to do. But I place most of the blame on my parents. I have a very protective attitude about my pets now that I have two wonderful dogs in my life. My philosophy is simple: if you love them, you'll protect them. I feel that as painful as it has been to have moved on from the heartache, I've learned how to be a responsible pet owner.

this was the day i learned how much strength i really had. i had dealt with putting dogs to sleep before, but never have I had to make a decision like that one for onyx. she was healthy and young, but mentally unstable. although she was young at only 5 years old, she had always shown signs of aggresion. it had gotten to the point that we were not safe, nor were grayson or the other dogs. the decision to put her to sleep was not easy, but over time it became clear it was the only option. while we miss her daily, we really had no other options. i have learned to be at peace with my decision, and she will always be in our hearts.

I called to get a conference with his principal who was supposed to help me and she refused to talk to me and hung the phone up on me. I just am in a speachless frame of mind over this situation.

Paper Wishes Hot off the Press Christmas Splendor

I totally fell in love with the Christmas Splendor line that was sent and had to make something with it the minute I got my hands on it. This is a paper bag mini album that I made using their paper. I actually made TWO identical mini albums with 8 pages total in each book with the paper that was in this pack. The mini album is made out of lunch paper bags. I initially had the brown ones that you get at the grocery store, but when I got this paper I actually bought some red ones at my local hobby store.
Im not going to post the whole album here, there are 16 total pages and a couple of tags that go along with this, but the few that I post will give you an idea of what the album looks like. Enjoy!

I don’t know how you could have lied to me, how you could have torn us apart. I know things where’s perfect, even though I thought our little life together with our family was almost perfect. There are times when I try to diffuse feelings of nervousness with humor. And sometimes when I do, I mess up a cliche or end up not being funny at all in front of others. Its those moments when I wish I could be like an owl and fly to the top of a tree and hide away. And I think, "Really? Did I just say that out loud?" Sometimes I think my dog has it super easy. All she has to do is look cute - never worrying about what to say in social situations.

At the ripe old age of 21, I was essentially an orphan. Yes, I was an adult, but you know as well as I do that you really don’t know anything at that age - even though you really think you know it all! After losing my mother to an aneurysm at the base of her brain just short of my 19th birthday, did I really do something so bad in life to lose my father to a heart attack at age 21? I don’t think so. However, that wasn’t the worst part...when my father passed away, I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter - his first grandchild - who he missed seeing my less than a month. Did life really need to be that cruel? Although it may not sound it, I’m really not bitter about it and I know this is just real life, but I do still have to ask myself...WHY?

LAURAJEAN:

Journaling reads: While visiting my bestfriend in Raleigh, NC, we decided to take the kids to the museum on a Monday Holiday. When I started to park, I noticed the sign "Assigned Parking ONLY, Violators will be towed", but Pam said it was fine since it was a holiday, so I parked and didn't think twice about it again. Well, when we entered the garage to leave, I was shocked to find my car gone(okay, I was hystersical)!! Thinking my car at been stolen, we headed to the police station only to find out that my car had actually been towed!!!!What?!? Apparently, the gentleman had come to work to find my car parked in his assigned spot in the garage, so he had me towed...I could have strangled Pam!!! She was parked right next to me and of course, her car wasn't towed!! I do believe the guy at the garage took pity on me and only charged me $20, but lesson learned, I will NEVER listen to my bff again...its all funny now, looking back on it!!!

Koen, Sometimes the things you do and say catch me off guard. Where on earth do you come up with these things?! Like when you do something that you know amuses someone else you turn around and say, "I'm funny?" Yes, sweetie - you are. We were watching a cooking show one day and ever since then you walk around punctuating sentences with - BAM! You are Superman, Spiderman, and the Hulk at any given time and your love for cars just overwhelms me at times. You, Koen, are so much like your father; it's a wonderful thing! You even picked up on my counting bit and repeat it at any given chance. You just make me laugh so hard and thinking to myself "Oh really Now?" Koen, you bring out my inner childish playful side and show me how to love stronger. You challenge me on a daily basis and make me a better person. A better mother. I love you so much, my little monster butt!

I used to wonder if I was being sensitive but then
I met you in person. I STILL cannot believe how mean and rude you are.
I cannot believe you told me to remember I was a NOBODY and I was there to take your messages.
I really did not think people acted that way.
I guess I am pretty naïve.
To some people you have the world in your hands, but to me you have nothing because you are so ugly on the inside it shows on the outside and it must be pretty painful to be you. I feel bad for you and something pretty bad must have made you the way you are today.
Still there is no excuse to be so rude and nasty not only to me but to others around me.
I am sad for you.

The Moment

The first year hubby and I met we were together Christmas Eve...we were talking and everything was so exciting, we ended up staying up all night until Christmas morning. Every year now we spend Christmas Eve together on the sofa or by the tree, chattering about the year and our lives until we both pass out.
The first time, it was one of those "Moments" you know those unexpected spontaneous moments that you will never forget and has changed a part of your life.
I challenge you today to look deep in your heart and find that forgotten moment, that moment you never talk about but you treasure in your heart, that moment that changed the way you saw yourself or you saw the person you were in it with.

No it does not have to be a romantic moment or a sweet moment it can be any moment you want. Good, bad, or even ugly!

Your Love Hurts Me

It's funny how people hurt the ones they love the most.
Sometimes is it so toxic you have to cut them off, sometimes you
can handle it but it's a daily struggle, sometimes you just avoid it
altogether. This challenge is all about those who love to hurt you
or just blindly hurt you while saying "I love you".
No it might not be intentional, but it still hurts.
Maybe it's the sister who constantly says how horrible your
children are, or the friend who always criticizes your weight.
Or the parent who only sees their child who makes mistakes
and does not acknowledge your accomplishments.
It's ok to see the pain, and it's ok to still love them.

Having a child at 18 really puts into perspective who your true friends are in life. There were a few people who I had thought were forever friends, but as soon as I had a child and was nolonger able to be the 'Amy' I once was, they distanced themselves from me. What hurt the most is that they still claim to be one of my best friends. All the while talking crap behind my back. I overlooked it over and over. Guess What? NO MORE 'one more chances' with me. YES!!! I had a child at a very young age. Do I regret it? Hell NO! It caused me to finally grow up and learn to appreciate life so much more. I'm actually sorry our friendship is over, but having people in my life that don't support me when they said they always would is not something I want. I want my kids to value friendship - TRUE friendship. You hurt me far too many times. NO MORE.

With the exception of Devin, falling in love with you was probably the worst thing I have ever done. And I loved you - probably still do! I loved you SOOOO much! You were the world to me. Yes, we made mistakes - both of us, but that didn’t change my love for you. You always were a drinker. When your mother passed away, you drank and drank and drank. Every day. I don’t even think you saw it. We had that arguement....you were 100% sure you didn’t drink every day. You got out of work and went to the bar to drink until it was time to pick me up. You could have spent that time with your son. You could have picked him up early and had one-on-one time with him...but you didn’t. You had to go to the bar instead. Then you would pick me up and drop Devin and I at home and then go back to the bar and pretty much stay there Thanksgiving was the last straw. You left right after the meal and were still at the bar at midnight. Someobdy else had taken us home You were so ticked off because you knew you couldn’t drive yourself and didn’t know why I had gone home without you. I’ll tell you why - because our son was two and needed to be in bed!!!! Somebody ELSE cared more about his well being than you did. The alcohol was more important than me or your son. Two days later I did something I promised I would never do to anybody...I gave you an ultimatum. It was either me and your son or the alcohol. You never responded. You then left me the note to call you that day or you’d pack up your stuff and go. I had to FIGHT not to pick up that phone and call you. It’s one of the hardest things I had ever done. I loved you, but you loved the alochol more. I didn’t want your son growing up thinking that this is what life should be. So I didn’t call. You came home, packed your stuff, and left. Even though I knew it was what was best for me and your son, I cried. And I cried a lot. I sought help from Devin’s EIP counselor. They helped me through. I am probably a stronger person today because you’re an alcoholic and don’t see it as a problem. It’s okay...and I’m okay too. And better yet, so is MY son.

Journaling: You rarely told me you loved me and now I know why.

Just because I was born from your womb does not mean that an instant loving bond could be created.

I remember those long lonely night of pain you left on my body and in my mind.

I remember the Christmas you bought everyone in our lives gifts, but on Christmas morn there was nothing for me. You told me I was a horrible daughter and I deserved NOTHING.

I watched my family smile and open gifts as I sat alone at 12 thinking I must be the worst person ever born to deserve this day.

I wonder why I struggle with self esteem at 35?

Every day I work so hard to erase the pain and destruction you caused. It is working but the ashes remain.

Maybe one day I won't remember the words "I wish I had aborted you" or "You are a filthy little whore".

I hope one day I am able to forget just how much your "LOVE" hurts me.

I cannot believe we only had 2 entries in the last challenge!

Games are for children right?

I have very often referred to my daughter as a “medical nightmare”. She’s klutzy and often ends up in the emergency room. Well, this time was different - it was truly her health, and not just a broken bone. It all started when she told me her back hurt. I really didn’t think too much of it. I figured she had slept wrong or something...this went on about a week. On Saturday morning, she vomited. Again, didn’t think too much of it. By Sunday, the back was really hurting and she was feeling nauseas all the time - to the walk in clinic we went. They took an x-ray, said her back was fine and sent her home with painkillers. Monday morning, the fevers started - around 105 degrees. To the hospital emergency room we went. 7 hours later, we were told she had mononucleosis. I don’t think I ever realized that virus could hit that hard. But it did. We had to follow up with our regular doctor. So we did. What a surprise we had. Not only did she have mono, she also had a UTI and something called granulomas on her liver. This could have actually come from somebody who had tuburculosis. To make matters worse, our doctor wasn’t going to be taking our new health plan, so we had to follow up in a month to be tested for tuburculosis and find a new doctor before that. This is definitely what I would call a SUDDEN IMPACT!

"Reality check - maybe you're not taking care of yourself after all."

After those words left my tongue, I felt a little shocked. I was becoming more and more confident as a therapist, even though I was only 27. I loved my job working at the intensive psychiatric counseling center. Helping people professionally was something I dreamed about since I was a pre-teen.

The woman in my group therapy session just stared at me blankly, then said, "Isn't that a little harsh?" I sheepishly apologized for coming off strong but I pointed out a few things going on in her life that lead her to an emotional break down. For weeks after that, my colleagues and I worked with her on getting to where she needed to be emotionally. As her primary therapist, I often thought about how I would be affecting her life and I took caution in each approach. I challenged her to confront the reasons why she was being so self-destructive, and build her feelings of self-worth. There were times when she got defensive. Other times she'd break down and cry, showing her most vulnerable emotions. Sometimes she'd get angry, as most do when digging up raw feelings. But she never missed one day of therapy, even when it was draining.

The day that she "graduated" from therapy was the day I realized that I had made a genuine impact on her. She thanked me in front of my colleagues and said that she'd remember my words for years to come and how they'd help her in the future. She said that I was wise beyond my years and that she'd never forget me. Nor have I ever forgotten her.
I guess you just never know when you might impact someone.

Maybe it was too late to say goodbye, maybe you wish you had known you were beautiful and sexy, maybe you wish you had known how hard it would have been or how EASY it would have been if you had tried it earlier?I wish I had known it was going to be ok, I wish I had known I was going to lose you, I wish I had known how valuable I really was.

I wish I had known how hard it would be to tell you goodbye. You were my father’s father, My Grandpa Page. A man that was happiest sitting in his recliner watching a football game or in your workshop building. Working with wood. You had a magical hand grandpa, you could build anything and I always looked up to you for that. But in your house I always felt like an outcast. After all, we were our father’s children. Children that came from a home you did not approve of. From a man that has caused the family a great amount of disappointment. I know you had big dreams for your children. You worked hard to make a life for them, and he let you down, and in retrospect I always felt like I was a disappointment to you as well. In your house we were strangers. As a child I always wondered what was wrong with me. Mom and Dad always made us give you hugs when we left your house, it was never comfortable. It should have been hugs filled with love; instead it was a race to see who could let go fast enough. I have a childhood filled with memories of awkwardness, forced affection, and I just want you to know that I do love you. I always did, but I did hold a lot of resentment towards you and my grandmother. When we found out that you had cancer and were becoming sicker by the day I loaded up my family and drove 9 hours to be there. I was only able to stay a couple days, but those few days changed my heart towards you in ways that I can’t even explain. I came to your house and saw you laying in bed and my heart hurt. This distant man who has been such a huge part of my life is leaving us. You asked to see Kyrsten. You had never met her. She was only a few months old at the time. You looked at my girls and told me how proud of me you were, that I was a strong person and that you loved me. In all honesty I had never felt so loved in my life. It’s a silly thing to think that those few words could make such a difference, but they did coming from a man that I had longed for acceptance from for so long. Less than a month later you passed away. I made the trip back down to attend your funeral. I was lost. I was upset. I was sad. I was an emotional rollercoaster that kept turning circles with no destination, and all of a sudden I crashed into a river of tears. Tears for the past 23 years of my life that I knew you, but never really knew who you were. You were a good man, a strong, silent, observant man. I know this now. I know you loved me in your own way. I know you only wanted what was best for me, and I love you for that. Every time I get the chance to visit you I do. I sit at your grave and talk with you to let you know how I am, but you know that. Now that I have gotten older I understand you. I just wish I could have known then what I know now. I wish I had known that telling you goodbye would be one of the hardest things I have had to do because I do love you grandpa. I do.

You really piss me off. You are a lousy brother, a lousy son and a lousy uncle. I can't speak for your kids and say that you are a lousy dad, but if you treat them the way that you treat your family, it's probably safe to say that you are lousy at being a father too. All these years I sat back and always FORGIVE.....and try to forget how you treat us and always pretend that everything is ok. Not anymore. You crossed the line when you couldn't even show up for your niece's graduation. It was important to her, and she was really hurt that you decided that you had better things to do then to be around your friends and family for a day. Go ahead, keep hiding, don't come around, live your life by yourself. I feel sorry for you because you will be a lonely old man one day. I feel sorry for you the day that we finally come face to face, because I am not going to hold anything back. I'm done forgiving you and letting you just waltz in and out of our lives like everything is ok, because you know what BROTHER, it's NOT FINE!

Mom’s Chair. A very Special chair. One might look at it and see just a simple piece of furniture, but to me it is so much more. I look at this chair and I see happiness. Happiness from the past, present, and future. I see all 3 of my children late at night snuggled up to me as I rock them to sleep, as I sing them silly songs that only a mother can sing. I see me reading ‘The Cat in the Hat’ just one more time, over and over. This chair has had another life other than the one my family has given it. It was handed down to me by my dear cousin Jenny, who used it to rock her own 2 babies to sleep. This rocking chair is history, it is love. Once a light oak color, but sanded and refinished by my husbands own two hands just to make me happy. Now that my babies are older this chair sits perfectly placed on my front porch. I sit in it and watch my children play. I sit in it late at night, enjoying the fresh air while having endless talks with my husband about anything and everything ever imaginable. This chair to me is so important. It’s the one place where I can go and everything else fades away and all I see is a state of calm. It’s my serenity. My peace. My happiness. My memories all combined into a piece of wood. A very important, always loving, piece of beautiful rocking chair wood.

These days what gives me the most peace of mind, and where I immediately go to when feeling anxious, is my art - and more specifically acrylic painting. I've really been exploring textures and shapes and tearing apart and putting back together.

This layout combines all of these things - it was so much fun to work on! A couple of techniques I used were - smooshing paint (which i actually just did a tutorial on) and using Punchinella for stencil and embellishment.

The Facts of Life

Life is what it is, it is FULL of ups and downs, bumps and bruises, and even sex. This challenge is not for the weak! hahaha just kidding... Fact is, every relationship out there, no matter how good, has its flaws.
My mum and I share this love-hate relationship since my teenage years till now.
We quarrel, we fight, we make up, we love, we hate..
It's conflicting to say I love her.
But I really do, despite the quarrels, fights and cold wars.
One thing for sure is that she loves me with all her heart.

I have hypothyroidism which means my thyroid gland is under active. I have to take medicine for the rest of my life to regulate my thyroid levels. Before I found out I had this condition, I started feeling terrible. I always felt tired and down right exhausted, sluggish and weak. I had difficulty concentrating on things and I felt like I was in a fog. I have to take a pill every day one hour before I eat which is a pain on the weekends. I’ve been on my medication for over a year now. Some days I still suffer with certain symptoms. When I went for my pre-surgery testing last month the doctor said my thyroid gland looks enlarged, so I need to go for another scan and checkup with my doctor. This is something that I always have to keep on top of. The biggest thing that has been bothering me about this condition is trying to loose weight. It’s something that I’m really struggling with. Hopefully as time goes by I’ll learn more about this condition and be better able to help myself get better

Facts of life:

The fact that I'm single at the age of 45 scares me a bit.

I certainly dont show this to friends and family because

I have and always will be a strong woman. But I have

come to realize that at my age I am not sure that there is

anyone out there for me, and have also realized that I may

be single and doing this whole life thing alone. I do it now,

but I struggle every day trying to make ends meet with

me and the kids. It's just me putting a roof over our heads

and making sure that we have food on the table and the

bills are paid. It's very very hard to do, but it's a fact. I have

no one to rely on but myself and some how I make it work.

It's hard at times, but I make it work. So the fact is that I'm

a single mother taking care of everything on my own and

doing the best I can. And the fact is that I may be alone

the rest of my life, I'm coming to terms with that too, who

needs a man anyways?

I always have and always will try to be that friend,
The one you can count on the one who will bend over backwards and ignore the bad because I know I am not perfect.
But sometimes I wish I could just be a royal bitch!
I cannot believe how some people cyber bully me with texts and emails letting me know how much they hate me and threatening my life. I guess I need to step back and start looking harder at people I give the gift of friendship to.
Because no matter how many times you text me and threaten me, no matter how many times you try to bully me, I won’t ever dignify it with a response, because only bullies, and cowards act like children and bring on the drama,
I am a mother, a friend, and a kind hearted WOMAN not a child who needs to feel good by bullying other adults.
So keep on bringing the drama, because you won't find any drama from me.
Never have, never will.
It just shows that something is really missing in your life that you have to take the time to TRY to bully or bother me. I feel sad for you.

I know we all have those moments when we say
"Man I was totally wrong what was I thinking??" or "Where was my head??"
It is always a good thing to look back...reflect
on a mistake or lesson learned and remember how we got here in life
and how that mistake or lesson helped us move along.

Here's my text (in case it's hard to read):

On a family trip to Hawaii, I tried scuba diving. It was a lot of money, but it was something I wanted to experience all on my own. The afternoon before the dive I attended a practice at the hotel pool with the scuba gear. It was a cinch as I practiced breathing under water and using my flippers to swim. I thought I was ready - Little did I know the actual practice would be nothing like the real thing.

That morning the boat took us out to 300 feet deep waters and I was already starting to get a little sea sick. But I ignored it and got my gear ready for the dive. In the water the instructor told me to equalize my ears every three feet due to the pressure. I was doing ok until I heard a pop in my ear and I was instantly queazy. I tried equalizing again and nothing happened. The pressure was outrageous, so I went back up to the surface. I attempted yet again with no success. I got back on the boat, feeling defeated and embarrassed.

The boat was anchored but I felt as though everything was spinning. Was this Vertigo? I stood up trying to get my bearings when I ran into the captain. I ended up throwing up all over him. I have never been so humiliated, embarrassed and disappointed in my life. I kept thinking how I wasted good money, and a chance of experiencing something really great. Some idea. Seriously, what was I thinking? If only life had a "rewind" button.

Dirty Scraps Challenge #5:

We all have them...hopes, dreams, fears... but this time I wanted to concentrate on those dreams, more specifically acknowledging those shattered dreams. Scrap about a shattered dream.Maybe your dream was to have 2.5 kids a home and a successful career. But you are divorced and raising the kids on your own. Maybe your dream was to be a dancer? Heck maybe it was to be a secretary? We all grow up and even if they are not our prominent dreams and we are completely satisfied with our current lives...we all had those dreams that sort of flew away. I love my life but I can think of several dreams I did not see through. It's NOT a bad thing, it is just life and the way life flows. I truly believe it is a positive thing because out path in life leads us on many roads, not just the ones we plan for. You can take this layout in any direction you want :)

Prompt #4 Inspiration

One of the things I love about this new challenge blog are the prompts really make me think deep and in a slightly different way.

My dog passed away Feb 5 and I hadn't been able to muster up any creative energy for anything. The photo I used for this layout i have everywhere - it just seems to be the perfect representation of her. When i saw the prompt, "in your eyes", i realize i look into her eyes of the photo constantly and that's what we used to do when we cuddled.

I apologize for this extraneous post, as i didn't get my layout done in time for the original posting, but i still wanted to share how i interpreted the prompt and just thank Pinky once again for hosting such an awesome blog! It provided a much needed creative therapy outlet!

When I talk to the people I love or friends I often ask myself "Who are they looking at? What glasses are they using?" It's amazing how much less/more critical we would be on ourselves if we saw what others saw. So this challenge is to Scrap a page through someone else's eyes.
Either how someone see YOU (ask them or journal words they have used before) Or scrap a page about how you see someone else. I mean how you REALLY see them. Why they see you that way? Why you see them that way? Think about it and reflect, it might give you some new insight or even compassion (for others or yourself).

Dear Father…my dad…the man I am supposed to look up to, the man I am supposed to come to with my problems, the man who is supposed to make my life better with wise gentle words and daddy hugs. We all know that Daddy hugs make everything better in life. At least that’s what my own children tell me. But I will never know that for myself, will I? I do look up to you dad but not in the way a daughter should. I look up to you as an example. An example of what not to do and of whom not to be. You impacted my life on so many levels with your harsh words, your brass personality, your seemingly common failures, and your abandonment. I will never in my life allow something to control my life like you have. I will never allow a drink to be more important to myself than my very own children. A six pack of beer or dinner for my family?! Are you freaking kidding me? For most people it would be a very easy question to answer, but I guess for you it was too….you always chose that damn beer. You say you have your reasons for drinking, well dad your reasons for drinking are the same as my reasons for sitting on a toilet….SHIT. As I was growing up I tried to put on my daddy blinders and pretend that everything was ok, life was normal, and I always had the help of my big brother to make me happy, to make all of us kids happy. He is only one year older than I am and was more of a father to me than you have or will ever be. Who was around to build the tree houses, to hang a ghetto rigged basketball hoop, to push us on the swing he made. Who was it that rode his bicycle to the store to get food, who went to work at the age of 15 so he could pay our rent, who loved his family that much to sacrificed being a normal child himself?! It sure the hell wasn’t you. You were too busy sitting back nursing your beer and wondering why your family was so mean to you. We were your pretty little trophies that you liked to show off whenever we went anywhere and if we ever spoke out of place we knew that we would get the belt when we got home. Sure we were pretty little kids, but we lived in fear. Fear that if we did anything to upset ‘dear old dad’ that we would get it. When we were older and able to stick up for ourselves better you resorted to not spanking us, but verbal abuse. Which in my opinion is much worse. You made your daughters feel like the worst girls in the world…why? Because we were getting older and we were dating. You hated that. You called me every single name in the vulgar dictionary. And you wondered why at the age of 16 I was gone. I couldn’t deal with you any longer. You are my worst nightmare, and probably always will be. I know what a father should be; my children have experienced that for themselves because they have a wonderful father who loves them unconditionally. A father that you hate of course. I just want you to know dad, that you hurt people. You hurt me, and you are now hurting your grandchildren. But the saddest part of it all is the fact that you have hurt yourself the most because you will never experience the love a father should, and that is truly a disservice unto yourself. The one good thing I did learn from you was to find something you love and never let go of it. For you it was your alcohol, and for me it is life. My life, my children, myself. So thank you for that. Good Bye ‘Dad’.

For better or worse that is what we vowed. But that vow was broken, not by my choice but by yours. You lost us, you lost the best thing that ever happened to you, your wife and your kids. Because of your illness to gamble and drink alcohol you broke up our family. I will never understand why you chose those things over us. I will always wonder why it was better for you to continue with your addictions and refuse to get help because you never admitted to having a problem. But when we can't pay a mortgage, or we are going to the pawn shop to get my jewelry back, or trying to come up with money to bail you out of jail for a DWI, aren't those obvious clues that there is an issue? Well 19 years of marriage down the drain, and to this day I know that I was the best damn thing that you will ever have had in your life. Your loss not mine. You broke it, not me.

The breakup happened in 2006. When I think back I can’t believe it happened. I hate the word divorce It’s not something that I ever wanted to happen and I can’t believe it all went wrong.I know that God has a reason for everything. Sometimes I still get angry.I sometimes ask God why this happened. But I know I have to go on. I have to stop blaming and pick up the pieces. My heart is not broken anymore, it’s just under repair. I’m ready for the next chapter in my life, with two awesome boys by my side and God in my heart.

KELLY:
Journaling: My body & I disagree – our relationship is seriously broken. I feel great, but my body doesn’t think so. I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s, migraines, vaso vagal issues, etc. I have had more surgeries than most people my age. I don’t understand b/c honestly I feel healthy. I wish I knew my family medical history, but no such luck. L I’ll just keep plugging along in hopes of one day being miraculously ‘healed’.

Why should we be depressed over the people of this world who will sadly but surly fail us?
Why should we be depressed over not having what we really want but do not need?
Sometimes, we're just too comfortable with the feeling of being depressed simply because we dare not face the road ahead bravely.
The day finally came when I decided to get over the ruminating, the depression and the uncomfortable comfort of living my life this way.
Days of turning in and waking up with suicidal thoughts have now converted into days of turning in and waking up with thankfulness and the assurance that God & his unfailing love will make things right.

My interpretation of feeling broken, is when you feel incomplete and defeated. I have a very busy husband who travels the world for his photography. He's my best friend, my soul mate and my confidant. When he travels, I feel broken inside. We are so close that it just feels empty without him. My inspiration comes from one of my favorite songs by Seether, "Broken". The lyrics explain how I feel when he's away. The lines in the layout are straight but broken, symbolizing the feeling of being incomplete.

My 2nd page is titled, As Broken As It Gets and is about me and my brother, the one who is in prison. My journaling is hidden under the heart, you can see part of my journal block stick out on the left side!!! In essence the journal is about, me and my family not being defined by my brothers actions, how in no way shape or form do I agree with what he did at all, how I tried to support him by taking phone calls, letters and even visiting him because I wouldn’t want to be in a place like that all alone, and how once a trust is broken it is very hard to get it back, if at all possible!!! Last line of my journaling reads this: The letters have stopped coming, the calls don’t come anymore because somehow my phone started blocking them out, and I don’t remember the last time I went to visit, so for me this relationship is as broken as it gets!!!

Scrap a pivotal point in your life.
Scrap a page about that one changing moment that happened at some point in your life, whether it be a new baby, escape from abuse, a tragedy, a miracle....I don't care just get it on paper and remember it for what it is!

It does not have to be a positive event, it can be anything that happened to you, by you or for you? Maybe it was an intervention, a breakthrough, someone, or something...just look deep and scrap it hard!

I asked you why you let your “friend” rape and molest us, and come to live with us?
You know what you did next proved to me that you did not care one bit about me. You LAUGHED, yea you had the audacity to to laugh and say…”hmm I guess you never know who your friends are or what they will do”.
Well…DAD he molested all 6 of us and raped me and my sisters ! Guess what? You should have been more aware!!! We tried to tell you and you didn’t care.
Pivotal Point: My dad doesn’t give a shit about me so get over it!

It's a personal layout about how I went through some major surgery and how I felt all alone in the painful process, only to realize that I wasn't alone. It was a pivotal time in my life and I hope others who view the layout will get inspiration from it.

LAURAJEAN:Journaling says: a pivotal moment for me was when I finally realized I needed to be on meds for my depression!! It took me several years to finally have the courage to go to the doctor and ask for help!! I was just "so" ashamed and embarrassed of myself!! I just couldn't understand why I couldn't fix the problem on my own.

And Now...I realize its "NOT" a bad thing!! And in the end, all that matters is me and that I'm Happy!!

Is this really me? Was I really that big? I never felt that big. But I see the pictures, I see the fat face, I see the fat body. Maybe this is why I was depressed? Maybe this is why I was unhappy? Maybe this is why I had to be put on depression medication? I had to do something about this, I had to do something for myself. I wanted to be happy again. I wanted to have energy again. I wanted to be there for my kids. Health and happiness is what I wanted. So I decided that I was going to take the plunge and have gastric bypass. I knew that I had to do something drastic, because diets just didn't work for me. Now 7 years later I'm still healthy and feel great. Look at me now. It was the best decision that I ever made.

Good day dirty girls!
I'm sharing a little tutorial on my layout named 'Broken'

The only journaling on this layout is placed across the title, 'as BROKEN as you want it to be'.

This serves as a reminder to me about how affected we are by others depends on how much you want others to affect you.

I've been through countless broken relationships, many of which are on the road of no return.
Sure I mourned about them day and night, even after years..
It's alright to be broken, really!
But it's not alright to remain broken because things will only become better when you reach the bottom of the pit, won't it?
So, if you're feeling broken right now, over the loss of a loved one, a painful break-up or a sudden desertion by close friends, let your hair loose and scream or cry.
Then, leave those baggages behind and move on to bigger, better things!

So heavy issues aside, let's move on to the mini tutorial that's real easy!

First of all, randomly tear the middle of the patterned paper, the shape is up to you.
I've a rough idea how my embellishments and photo are going to settle on them, so make sure it is visible to see the tear!

Next, tear a slightly larger paper from another patterned paper in the same fashion, and put it beneath the former.

Ink the edges of both torn papers with distress ink. (I use old paper from Rangers)

If you notice, I stitched the edges of the torn papers to the paper in brown and white.
I love the look of hand stitched threads running around my focal point!
I also sprayed glimmer mist to give it more color since there's a minimal use of patterned paper.

I've this lovely memory glass from Rangers to fill my embellishments in.
Assemble them as you like.

I stamped 'Be Strong' on the papers, what a strong reminder!

I attach ribbons haphazardly all over below the photo using Glossy accent.

The die-cut scissors are from Quickutz, notice it is hanging from the tiny rope which are cut up and tied again? This is also in line with my theme of being broken and yet managed to overcome it.

That's all for now.
A simple layout which conveys a great deal of meaning, at least for me.

I am an Independent Memory Works consultant, wife and mother of 3 very active children. I live in a very small town in Eastern Ohio and I LOVE TO SCRAP! I've been at it now for about 7 years and there's nothing on this planet that can stop me. I've scrapped everything from baby layouts to weddings and holidays to every day events and now, I get to scrap the dirt, the nitty gritty, the stuff people don't usually scrap about. Why? No I was never abused but, I have had many friends who were whether it be parental or marital. We have all been through some kind of hardships in our lives and for me, this will be a great experience and cheap therapy.

Hi! I'm Lara and i live in atlanta with my two doggies and most notably have recently started the next chapter of my life...and I'm a dirty girl if that also means walking around all the time with paint and ink stuck in my cuticles!
I have gone through the gamut of scrapbooking ... first starting with all store bought materials scrapping family and vacations ... then trepidatiously starting to realize i can scrapbook about myself for personal growth ... to discovering the beauty of using found objects and unconventional products on my pages and not caring so much about the "acid-free rule" to where i am currently ... abandoning ALL rules and art journalling, with abandon, my daily trials and tribulations and realizing how much better everything seemed after i got it out of my head and onto a sheet of paper with my hands caked in paint and gesso and yummy glue.
I am so excited for dirty scrapping and look forward to being a part of this awesome growing community of scrapbookers who encourage fearless, honest, and true scrapbooking of the moments that make us who we really are!

I'm Holly and I've been scrapbooking for about 10 years now. I taught scrapbooking classes in 2006. My layouts have been published in many popular scrapbooking magazines, including "Simple Scrapbooks", "Creating Keepsakes", and "Scrapbooking and Beyond." Though I've experimented with many techniques and forms of scrapbooking and preserving memories, I'm now most comfortable creating digital layouts.

My husband of 10 years takes most of our family photos, as he's a professional photographer. We have two adorable dogs; Shiley is our Golden Retriever and Chloe is our Pekalier (mix of Pekingese and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). We've traveled the country and moved around quite a bit chasing dreams and starting careers.
It has made life colorful and interesting for me.

I'm a bit of a free spirit. I find inspiration in the great outdoors, my family, my faith, my life experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly), songs, and even quotes. My moments of inspiration quadruple in size when I'm happily caffeinated. Life's worth remembering and reliving for we only have one ... so I say, scrap it all!

I started as a consultant for a scrap booking company because I fell madly in love with the concept of preserving memories in an artistic way. Let's get right to it while

Not entirely sure of everything on this blog yet
BUT here is the deal...

Dirty Challenge #1

We all have negative experiences in our life from the VERY bad to the regular ups and downs so I challenge you to scrap a PEEVE, annoyance or a downright angry moment that's the dirty part...
but here is the twist...
We are not just a bitching session here, this blog is to inspire you to look inside and grow... on the same page I want you to find something positive in that aggravation and put some perspective on it.

Here is my example...
My Peeve: I really get peeved with people who try to cause you drama
and bring you down with a negative attitude and nasty comments...
always finding something wrong with you and pointing it out,
even if it is not true.

My Positive: I have learned which friends are true friends and
to let the negative people and their ways not get to me as much
and let them go. I am not so lonely I have to hang on to every person
who hates on me...I can let them go.
5 years ago I would have been in bed devastated...it's big progress for me :)

As always, we support your scrapping no matter what it is, so
if you don't feel strong enough yet to journal it publicly that's OK! :)
Just being open to it makes your life better.
